When you make Eliston your home you get so much more than the amazing facilities within our estate. Eliston is part of the City of Casey, host to some amazing local amenities with the neighbouring Western Port region just 15 minutes away. Discover what’s on in Clyde and around the City of Casey for May. We’ve round up some great activities in the local area, including free and family friendly events.

Fruit Tree Pruning and Care, Berwick

When: Saturday 21 May 2016, 10:00am – 1:00pm

Where: The Old Cheese Factory, 34 Homestead Road, Berwick

What: Come along to these hands on workshops and learn how to care for, identify plant health and prune to give you the best yield of fruit. Tickets – $20.

Annual Plant Giveaway, Cranbourne

When: Friday 20 May 2016, 9:00am – 5:00pm & Saturday 21 May 2016, 9:00am – 12:00pm

Where: Cranbourne Park Shopping Centre, High Street, Cranbourne (also at Fountain Gate Shopping Centre)

What: Free event

The City of Casey Annual Plant Giveaway is on again this year. If you are a ratepayer of Casey, come down to Cranbourne and receive your two FREE indigenous plants for your backyard. This is a Council-funded event to help the community contribute to our ‘Growing a Green Web’ program, which aims to form a ‘green’ network across the City of Casey. Please bring proof of Casey residency.

Royal Botanic Gardens, Cranbourne

When: Various daily tours during May

Where: Corner of Ballarto Rd & Botanic Drive, Cranbourne

What: Autumn Pass – discounted passes can also be purchased for two walking tours OR one walking tour plus a daily pass on the Garden Explorer.

Plants for your Place (walking tour): If you have ever wanted to learn more about using Australian plants in your garden, then this is the tour for you!
Join an experienced guide on a journey from the Red Centre to the eastern seaboard, picking up expert tips to help you find the best Aussie plants that are right for your place.

Flora Australis (walking tour): Join an experienced guide on a fascinating journey through time. Discover how Australian plants have evolved and adapted over millions of years and how human interaction with plants has changed over time.

Snapshots of Australia (walking tour): Travel through the landscapes of Australia with an experienced guide while taking in the sights, sounds and smells of this unique continent. This tour explores seasonal colour providing visitors with a snapshot of the very best the Australian Garden has to offer. This tour starts at and loops back to the Visitor Centre.

Garden Explorer (group tour): Bring your group in for an exclusive one-hour tour through the Australian Garden in the comfort of the Garden Explorer. Hop off at interesting points as you discover the diversity, colour and beauty of Australian native plants.

Dressmaker: From Page to Screen, Hampton Park

When: Thursday 26 May, 7:00pm to 8:00pm

Where: Rivergum Performing Arts Centre, 63 Fordholm Road, Hampton Park

What: Hear how it all came about from popular Australian author of hit book and movie ‘The Dressmaker’, Rosalie Ham, and film producer Sue Maslin.
Rosalie reveals her inspiration for the story: the writing process; her experience at being an extra in the award-winning film; and her other novels since the film’s outstanding success.
Sue will share why she produced the story; the screen adaptation process; and the triumphs and hurdles – from finance to casting. The film has made over $20 million at the box office and won five AACTA awards.

Build your own terrarium (ages 17+), Hampton Park

When: Saturday 28 May, 2:00pm to 3:30pm

Where: Hampton Park Library, 22-26 Stuart Avenue, Hampton Park

What: Free event, BYO jar or vessel, all other materials supplied

Terrarium making began during the early 1800s, when Dr. N. Ward realised he could grow exotic plants successfully inside a miniature great house in London – a cold and polluted city. In this workshop, you will learn how to make your own terrarium, which is essentially a small ecosystem within glass. We’ll discuss how the layers of the garden go together and why; the particular plants that will work; and how to care for them.

Learn How To Make Cheese – Blue (Soft / Creamy) and Sour Cream, Berwick

When: Saturday 28 May, 9:30am to 3:30pm

Where: The Old Cheese Factory, 34 Homestead Road, Berwick

What: Hands on workshop, tickets – $120

Ever wanted to know how to make your own cheese and yoghurt? Then come along to these hands-on workshops and learn how to make Camembert cheese or Fetta and Halloumi, hosted by Cheeselinks. Each workshop also gets an opportunity to watch a demonstration on Whey Ricotta or Greek Style yogurt. “Your friends and family will be astounded when you tell them you made it yourself!”

All participants will have the opportunity to get involved and take samples home!

Mornington Peninsula Avicultural Society Bird Expo, Cranbourne

When: Sunday 29 May, 9:30am to 2:00pm

Where: Cranbourne Racecourse, Grant Street, Cranbourne

What: Expo, tickets – $4, children under 12 are free

Mornington Peninsula Avicultural Society will be hosting the 32nd annual Bird Expo at Cranbourne Racecourse. Refreshments available and free face painting for the kids. Plus a ‘Monster Raffle’ with a first prize of a large Bird Aviary valued at more than $1,800 and many more prizes.
